Historical town

From 620 to the French Revolution in 1789, Remiremont had lived behind its Abbey. Of the secular time, it has kept the private Chanoinesses' mansions, built all around the Abbey and forming the cloister's precinct. This harmonious architectural whole belongs to the 17th and 18th centuries.
The Chapter of Remiremont was an approved school where one would learn good manners and the perfect place for Royal families and families of nobility who wanted to keep their daughters in comfortable means.
The statue of the Volunteer was offered by the French State in 1899 in gratitude for the public-spiritdness of the inhabitants of Remiremont, when 1300 volunteers were ready to save the threatened homeland in 1792.
Chanoinesses' food
You will have the possibility to taste the famous Vosges smoked meat, the QUiche Lorraine, the Munster (cheese), the bilberry's pie, as well as the "Nonettes" and the "Loriquettes" (cakes), and not to mention the first class trout pâté, so appreciated by our Chanoinesses. We have a good selection of alcoholic drinks for you to sample and purchase, so that you may enjoy and savour them back home.
